Symbols of Santiago del Teide

The flag of Santiago del Teide is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 3 December 1991 by the Government of the Canary Islands and published on 13 January 1992 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 6, pp. 179-180 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: One and a half longer than wide, ultramarine blue, charged in the middle with nine silhouettes of Mt. Teide argent in a circular pattern, standing for the nine settlements forming the municipality, as represented on the bordure of the municipal coat of arms. In the middle of the circle, placed along the vertical diamter, the Cross of St. James, as represented on the municipal coat of arms, in height 2/3 of the flag's width.

The coat of arms of Santiago del Teide is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 4 June 1988 by the Government of the Canary Islands and published on 19 October 1988 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 132, p. 2,506 (text).
The coat of arms, validated by the Royal Academy of History, is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Quarterly, 1. Azure a bunch of grapes or, 2. A terracota vase or, 3. Argent a cactus proper, 4. Azure an anchor argent. Inescutcheon or a Cross of St. James gules. The shield surmounted with a Ducal coronet.

According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the 1st quarter represents the settlements of El Mollede, Las Manchas, Valle de Arriba and El Retamar, in which wine-growing was of great significance in the past. The 2nd quarter represents Arguayo, famous for its pottery of Guanche origin. The 3rd quarter represent Tamaimo, which is abundant in cactuses. The 4th quarter represents the coastal region, especially Puerto de Santiago. The Cross of St. James on the escutcheon alludes to the name of the municipality, as well as the silhouettes of Mt. Teide on the bordure, which also stand for the nine settlements forming the municipality. The coronet recalls the Counts of Siete Fuentes, once local rulers.
