Symbols of Vallehermoso

The flag and arms of Vallehermoso are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 3 October 1995 by the Government of the Canary Islands and published on 19 April 1996 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 48, pp. 2,931-2,932 (text). The symbols were initially adopted on 24 November 1990 by the Municipal Council and validated on 21 April 1995 by the Heraldry Commission of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: In proportions 2:3, the panel diagonally divided per bend, green at hoist and red at fly. The municipal coat of arms is placed in the middle.
Coat of arms: Azure a rock argent, a bordure gules charged with 11 gánigos or. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), red is a symbol of tradition and history while green represents the woods and fields, the fertility of the soil and the heart of the Garajonay National Park.
The main charge of the shield is the Cano Rock, the most significative element of the municipal landscape. The aboriginal bowls symbolize respect due to past and tradition.
