Presentation of Santa Ana de Pusa

The municipality of Santa Ana de Pusa (365 inhabitants in 2018; 1,900 ha; municipal website) is located 80 km west of Toledo and 40 km north of Talavera de la Reina.

Santa Ana de Pusa was originally known as El Canchar. In 1522, the settlement founded by the lord of Valdepusa was named Santa Ana de Bienvenida for an old chapel dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Bienvenida. In the 18th century, the village was placed under the jurisdiction of San Martín de Pusa and renamed to Santa Ana de Pusa.
The road to Talavera de la Rinea crosses river Puas via the Malpasillo bridge, erected in the 19th century in neo-classical style. Here the river flows through a narrow, rocky gorge, o narrow that it can be crossed in one, but hazardous step, that is, a bad step (mal paso).

Symbols of Santa Ana de Pusa

The flag of Santa Ana de Pusa is prescribed by an Order issued on 28 August 2000 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 22 September 2000 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 94, p. 9,288 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular panel, one and a half longer than wide (2:3), vertically divided in the middle, at hoist, argent a bend wavy azure, at fly, yellow with three green fesses.

The coat of arms of Santa Ana de Pusa is prescribed by an Order issued on 28 August 2000 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 22 September 2000 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 94, p. 9,288 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Per pale, argent a bend wavy azure, 3. Or three fesses vert.

The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed arms, which allude to river Pusa, the district's namesake, and feature the arms of the Ribera family, once lords of the place. The resulting composition is harmonic and totally compliant with the good traditional style.
The Academy turned down the proposed flag, which omits the bend wavy in the first quarter, without any reason, resulting in two different heraldic emblems for the same place. The bend wavy has to be added so that the flag is a full banner of arms, perfectly admissible.
