The municipality of Marrupe (153 inhabitants in 2018 vs. 457 in 1950; 1,000 ha) is located 100 km west of Toledo and 20 km north of Talavera de la Reina.

Marrupe was first mentioned in 1276. The village was granted in 1285 to Juan García de Toledo, and mentioned again in 1299 when the territory of Talavera was delimited.
Marrupe was part of the Marquisate of Montescalros, which was ran from Castillo de Bayuela.

The flag of Marrupe (photo, photo) is prescribed by an Order issued on 3 February 2003 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 14 February 2003 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 19, p. 2,086 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, red with a blue horizontal stripe bordered in white, superimposed with the crowned coat of arms of the town.

The coat of arms of Marrupe is prescribed by an Order issued on 3 February 2003 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 14 February 2003 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 19, p. 2,086 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Azure a pillory argent. A bordure gules eight crescent argent. The shield surmounted by a Spanish Royal crown.

The pillory of Marrupe is considered as the "king" of the local pillories.
The crescents in the bordure recall the arms of the Luna lineage, the oldest feudal lords with a significant presence in Marrupe. The crescents also recall that the name of Marrupe cames from Arab, although its exact meaning is obscure.
