The municipality of Moraleja del Vino (1,525 inhabitants in 2009; 1,949 ha) is located in the south of Zamora Province, 10 km from Zamora.
Moraleja del Vino is the birth place of the sculptor Eduardo Barrón (1858-1911). The designer of the statues of Viriathus (Zamora) and Colombus (Salamanca), Barrón was appointed in 1892 Curator of the Prado Museum.

Symbols of Moraleja del Vino

The flag and arms of Moraleja del Vino are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 27 November 1998 by the Municipal Council, signed on 20 November 2002 by the Mayor, and published on 26 December 2002 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 239, p. 16,703 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 2:3, made of nine horizontal stripes, the outer and central stripes red with proportions 3/16 and 1/4, the intermediate stripes blue fimbriated white with proportions 3/32 and 3/64, respectively.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Argent a bunch of grapes azure slipped and leaved vert, 2. Gules an open book argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The symbols were validated by the Royal Academy of History (Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, 2001, 198, 404-405).
The arms form a rebus of the village's name, the books representing moral (moraleja) while the grapes represent wine (vino).
