Venehuego

The fictional country of Venezuego appears in the Nero Wolfe 2001 TV series, featured in the 12th (and last) episode of the second season, "Immune to Murder" (see here).

It is based in Rex Stout's novella "Immune to Murder", serialized in American Magazine, in November 1955, and published in book format in 1957 Three For the Chair.

One of the charaters is Theodore Kelefy, Ambassador to the U.S. of Venehuego, a fictional country (not sure of the spelling, could be Venezhuego). This is an oil-rich country and its name and the anthropological features of the actor playing Kelefy (Giancarlo Esposito) suggests it is located in northern South America or the Caribbean, but biographychannel.com stated it is eastern European, which I found quite unlikely. [Alternative here.]

The flag of Venehuego, in the form of a small, slightly rigid car flaglet, is briefly shown in the opening scenes, when a row of official cars is slowly panned (I didnt't watch the whole episode, it may have been shown elsewhere).

It is a horizontal tricolor of red, yellow and green, charged in the middle stripe with a horizontal row of three red stars. (The shades of red and yellow were quite dark, perhaps a lighting effect?)

This design bears resamblances with Iraq (plausible, considering the oil connection, and this being about a "bad guy" character in an US series shot in 2001), but also a bit with Venezuela (parallel to the name), and with any pana-african flag. Other similarities (Bolivia, Lithuania) may be just coincidental.
