Pléneuf-Val-André (4,063 inhabitants in 2021; 1,707 ha) is a commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department.
The territory of Pléneuf-Val-André is very diverse: its seafront includes two ports/marinas (Dahouët and the port of Piégu), several beaches (large beach of Val-André or Grève de Saint-Symphorien, strand of Nantois extending to Erquy) and a rocky coast including several islets and cliffs ; the hinterland is made of agricultural land in the middle of which stands the village of Pléneuf.
The littoral zone was in 1860 deprived of the least habitation. The creation of Val-André is attributed to Charles Cotard by the purchase for this purpose on May 16, 1880 of a large part of the dunes and wetlands by the sea. Created by the progressive construction of villas along a 2.5 km beach, the seaside resort of Val-André, around a main street of equal length extending about fifty meters behind the dike-promenade, hosts many shops, a casino, theater and cinema, a large chapel (Notre-Dame chapel created by the nuns of Saint-Quay in 1890), many tennis courts, a center of thalassotherapy....
