Presentation of Mesnil-Roc'h

The new municipality of Mesnil-Roc'h (4,336 inhabitants in 2019; 416 ha), located 40 km north of Rennes, was established on 1 January 2019 as the merger of the former municipalities of Saint-Pierre-de-Plesguen (2,884 inh.; 2,949 ha), Lanhélin (993 inh.; 643 ha), and Tressé (402 inh.; 524 ha).
Mesnil-Roc'h is named for the Mesnil national forest, which covers part of the former municiplaity of Tressé, and the Breton word "roc'h", "a hard mineral block of natural origin", for the Lanhélin blue granite, also present in the municipality of Saint-Pierre-de-Plesguen.

The parish of Plesguen was part of the deanery of Dol under the bishopric of Dol. The first known lords of the parish bore the name of Plesguen from the 11th century. Called in the Middle Ages Pléguen ("white parish"), the parish was given by the bishop of Dol to his chapter at the beginning of the 13th century.
Under the Ancien Regime, the parish of Plesguen (Saint-Pierre-de-Plesguen) was ruled by the marquisate of Châteauneuf and the lords of Coëtquen. In 1221, Olivier de Coëtquen bequeathed all the tithe he perceived in the parish to the neighboring abbey of Tronchet, after the monks, to please him, had bought the episcopal mansion of Dinan and ceded it to the Jacobins of Dinan. In 1375, Geoffroy de Plesguen, made his will before setting off on a pilgrimage on the Way of Saint-James, granting the abbey of Tronchet all the tithe belonging to him on the parish and designating Friar Jocelin, prior of of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Roz-Landrieux, dependent on Tronchet, as his executor.

The flag of Saint-Pierre-de-Plesguen (photo, photo) is blue with the municipal coat of arms, "Argent, two keys gules [often reported sable] saltirewise a chief ermine", surmounted by the name of the municipality forming an arch.
