The municipality of Montrichard Val de Cher (3,810 inhabitants in 2017;
1,920 ha) was established on 1 January 2016 as the merger of the former
municipalities of Montrichard (3,319 inh.; 1,436 ha) and Bourré (676 inh.; 484 ha).
Montrichard lies on the north bank of river Cher, 32 km south
of Blois. The countryside is mainly constituted of vineyards, woods, cattle and cereals, and the town is famous for its
medieval castle. The castle was constructed by Fulk III,
the Black, Count of Anjou, in the 11th century, and rebuilt in the 12th century. Henri IV ordered it to be dismantled in 1589. The castle was registered in 1877 as an historical monument.

The flag of Montrichard (photo) was white with the municipal logo, which features a sketch of the municipal castle. On the logo, letter "t" is emphasized: in French, most people would pronounce the name of the town "Mon-richar" (as if it were Mon(t) + Richard), but in fact it has to be pronounced "Mon-trichar" (it is in fact Mon(t)+Trichard).
