Description of the flag

Pirate Party UK was founded in 2009. It is modeled after the Swedish Pirate party and defines itself as a radical centre party. It has been contesting the elections since 2010, having gained no elected representation so far.

The party flag is purple, with a white disk with black border at the hoist, charged with a black sail on the mast, shaped so as to resemble letter P, and party name in white, inscribed in two rows between the disc and the fly, word PIRATE in the top row in larger letters than words PARTY UK in the bottom row. The shade of purple is officially defined with the RGB values of either 102-0-102 or 153-0-153 [1], however the available photos of the flag [2, 3, 4] reveal the color which looks halfway between those two shades. The font used is officially defined as Alte DIN 1451 [1].

Another party flag has white field and black inscription [5]. Its status is not quite clear, but it shall be noted that white and black are officially defined as the party colors together with purple [1].

Prior to 2012, the party used turqouise color, shade varying, instead of purple an the logo differed in the relative size of disc and inscription (smaller disc) and text alignment (two rows aligned along the right edge instead of the left) [4, 6]. The photos of items bearing this version of the design, once much more numerous, have mostly disappeared from the Web so far; none of them was showing any flags, though, so the design was probably not used for the flags, or was used only extremely rarely.

I think the monochrome version derives from the official party logo registered with the Electoral Commission
(http://search.electoralcommission.org.uk/Registrations/PP770). Such logos must be registered in order for them to appear on ballot papers, and are always in black and white because these are not printed in colour.
