The municipality of Makrakomi (16,036 inhabitants in 2011; 83,470 ha) was formed in the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities of Agios Georgios Tymfristou (Άγιος Γεώργιος Τυμφρηστού, 3,278 inh.), Makrokomi (5,617 inh.), Spercheiada (Σπερχειάδα, seat of the municipality, 10,594 inh.) and Tymfristos(Τυμφρηστός, 586 inh.).
