The municipality of Plitvička jezera (4,668 inhabitants in 2001) is located 40 km north of Gospić, on the main state road from Zagreb towards the coast (Split), although the new highway built in the last years goes around. Namely, the larger part of the municipality is the extremely interesting Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is hardly surprising that tourism is the main source of income.
The seat of administration is the town of Korenica (1,570 inh.), which was since the 1970s named Titova Korenica; the attribute in the name was officially removed only in 1997, although in practice already in 1990, both by the rebel Serb regime that held the town until 1995, and by the Croatian government.

The symbols of Plitvička jezera are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Plitvička Jezera, adopted on 26 September 2008 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 23 October 2008 in the County official gazette Županijski glasnik Ličko-senjske županije, No. 19.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is described in Article 12 of the Decision as follows:
The flag is of a single blue colour, with a ratio of length to width of 2:1, with the coat of arms of the Municipality in the middle of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals. The coat of arms is bordered with a golden/yellow edge.

The ceremonial flag is mentioned in Article 13 of the Decision as "preserved in the Mayor's office", without further description. The flag (photos) is a blue gonfalon ending triangularly, with a fringe, the coat of arms in the centre, the name of the municipality above and branches of beech and fir trees below.
