Presentation of Buzet

Buzet (Italian, Pinguente) is located 20 km north of Pazin, in the region of Istria furthest from the coast. Population is 6,500, but only about 500 live in the town itself, the largest settlement being Funtana in the valley below Buzet. The distance from sea means also distance from the Italian influence, so the Italian name of the town, Pinguente, is rarely used.

Flag of Buzet

The symbols of Buzet are prescribed by the companion Decisions Odluka o zastavi Grada Buzeta (flag) and Odluka o grbu Grada Buzeta, both adopted on 10 June 1993 by the Town Assembly and published on 15 June 1993 in the Town official gazette Službene novine Grada Buzeta, No. 2.
The symbols are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Buzeta adopted on 20 October 1993 by the Town Assembly and published on 26 November 1993 in Službene novine Grada Buzeta, No. 4. This is repeated in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Buzeta adopted on 24 July 1997 by the Town Assembly and published the same day in Službene novine Grada Buzeta, No. 5. The Town Statutes Statut Grada Buzeta adopted on 15 November 2001 by the Town Assembly and published on 16 November 2011 in Službene novine Grada Buzeta, No. 9, omit the descriptions, keeping only the basic provisions. So do the current Town Statutes Statut Grada Buzeta adopted on 18 June 2009 by the Town Assembly and published on 19 June 2009 in Službene novine Grada Buzeta, No. 4.

The flag is described in Article 4 of the Decision as follows:

The flag of the Town of Buzet is rectangular in shape with a ratio of length to width of 2:1. It is diagonally divided in two fields (triangles), white and red, so that the shorter side of the white field is at the top part of the flag. At the widest part of the white field the coat of arms of the Town of Buzet is printed in blue, so that the centre of the oval of the coat of arms is set in the point made by coordinates set at 2/3 of the flag's width and 1/4 of the flag's length.

The way of displaying the flag is described in Article 6 of the Decision as follows:

When the flag of the Town of Buzet is displayed vertically on a mast, a stand or some other place, the coat of arms, that is the white field is on the right side as viewed from the front.
When the flag of the Town of Buzet is laid down or carried in horizontal position, the coat of arms, that is the white field is on the right side.
When the flag is displayed on a spear, the coat of arms, that is the white field is on the top.

The coat of arms is described in Article 5 of the Decision as follows:

At the top of the arms' base is a spear (a Bourbon lily). Beneath the spear there is wiggling to the left clodes Ionic volute, and from the volute issues a ribbon breaking upwards and ending in the volute turned inwards. Beneath the volute the base concavely enters towards the centre of the coat of arms, and then convexely curves ourwards. In the convex part the volute is opened towards the coat of arms' inner part. Beneath it a ribbon issues outwards breaking and entering towards the centre, where it ends with an open volute curving towards the top. Between the two volutes in the bottom of the coat of arms are three spears.
The base of the coat of arms is symetrical, with a ratio of height to width of 1.25:1.
At the volutes in the convex part of the base, are issuing, on the right side, sprouts of grapevine, and on the left side, oak branches. In the centre of the coat of arms is an oval, in which are depicted, in the top part the Great Gates of Buzet, and in the the bottom part, an artesian fountain. Above the oval is inscribed "Buzet".

The colors of the coat of arms are not mentioned at all.
