The 1996 coat of arms adopted initially was graphical modernization of the mid-19th century coat of arms from the community seals. It was adopted formally as the Community Council coat of arms on 19 April 1910, and was used during the Italian rules as well. In 1996 it was readopted as azure an anchor argent with supportes a lion and a griffin on a compartment, the shield topped with a simple five-pointed crown.

Rejected symbols of Klana

[Rejected flag]   [Former coat of arms]  images by Željko Heimer, 23 March 2005

Novi list, 23 March 2005, relates the process of adoption of the coat of arms and flag of Klana.
The Municipal assembly adopted at first a historical coat of arms that is preserved in the State Archives as a seal from the 19th century. The seal shows a shield with an anchor, crowned and supported by a lion and a griffin. The design was adopted in 1996 but in 1997 the Ministry of Administration refused to approve it, as elements around the shield are not allowed, and suggested a shield with an anchor only.
However, the inhabitants of Klana are not satisfied with that emblem since they live in highlands, away from the sea, and do not identify themselves with an anchor. In the last session of the Municipality Assembly, a new design was adopted in which the anchor was combined in top with a helberd. The Municipality hoped that the Commission for approval of the symbols of the Central Office for the State Administration would approve that design. They also decided that if the Commission did not approve it [which happened], they should go back to the previous suggestion to adopt a blue shield with a silver anchor only [which they eventually did]. In any case, they agreed for the flag to be green with the coat of arms in the middle.
The Municipality Assembly explained that the town of Klana is known to have had organized night watch (sentry) for centuries. The officers of this service were carrying a kind of helberd locally called rankun.

Here is a second rejected proposal from 2005.

After the 2005 design of coat of arms with the halbard was not approved, a design of coat of arms with an anchor with a crossbar was adopted, but eventually the current design without the crossbar was introduced.
