Flag of Kutina

The symbols of Kutina are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Kutina, adopted on 29 September 1992 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 30 October 1992 in the Municipality official gazette Službene novine Općine Kutina, No. 7. This was repeated in Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi grada Kutine, adopted on 27 May 1993 by the Town Assembly and published in the Town official gazette Službene novine Grada Kutine, No. 7.

The flag is described in Article 7, as follows:

The flag of the Town of Kutina is composed of three colours: red, white and blue, with the coat of arms of Kutina in the centre of the white field. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is 2:1.2. The flag colours are set horizontally in this order from the top: red, white, blue.
The red colour composes one sixth of the flag width, the white four sixths of the flag width and the blue one sixth of the flag width. The blue field of the flag ends with an indentation, its top being the crossing point of the blue field diagonals. The flag is outlined with a golden ribbon, and the bottom edge of the blue field is edged with a golden fringe.

The flag iss used eiither as prescribed or without indentation (rectangular), and as a table flag, containing the name of the town inscribed under the downward offset coat of arms.

The symbols were designed by Miroslav Šutej, chairman of the Kutina chapter of Croatian Matrix, a cultural society (Slavica Moslavaj (1993) Et Kottyna denique insigne suum profecit (I Kutina je naposljetku dobila svoj počasni znak). Muzejski vjesnik: Glasilo muzeja sjeverozapadne Hrvatske, 16: 87-88.).

The coat of arms is described in Article 4 of the aforementioned Decision, as follows:

The coat of arms of the Town of Kutina is rectangular in shape with longer vertical sides, the bottom side with rounded corners and its central part with a pointed extrusion. The basic coat of arms colour is blue (the colour of the Croatian flag). In the center of the coat of arms are two squares, one within the other. The inner square is divided into 16 silver and red fields, so that the first topmost field is silver. The squares are set so that their bottom corner points towards the pointed extrusion of the coat of arms. The area between the two squares is golden. At the top square corner a silver magpie, the head turned towards left. At the top of the coat of arms is a folded silver sash, the ends fringed golden. Above the central part of the sash are freely set two green leaves. The end of the left grapevine leaf enters the sash, and the stalk of the right oak leaf lays over the sash. The basic coat of arms drawing is black.

Kutina bears the arms of their medieval lords Csupor de Monoszlo (Čupor Moslavački), whose most prominent member was Demetrius II Csupor de Monoszlo, installed in 1446 as Bishop of Knin. The coat of arms of the Csupor family was already known in the 14th century. At the end of the 15th century the family died out and thier estates were eventually inherited by the Erdödy family, which bore de Monoszlo as their second attribute. The magpie is said to symbolize labor towards richness. Actually only the shield of Csupor is used (see Bojničić [bjn99a]), with a modified crest.

The coat of arms was widely used in the 1990s with a purpure field, which is erroenous; purpure is not among the colours allowed in regulations for coat of arms.
