Overview

The flag and the coat of arms was adopted in 8th April 1993 by the Council of the Community of Budapest Capital IV. District Újpest. The flag colours are: redn and gold (yellow). The flag is used with coat of arms in the middle. horizontal or vertical... Ratio of the flag: 1:2. At <www.ujpest.hu> you can find the image of the coat of arms.

Újpest is a district of Budapest Capital (IV. district) in Hungary on the left bank of the Danube. The district has got 114.622 inhabitants (1990 census) nearly all of them are Hungarians. Eight of the Official Ethnic Minorities in Hungary has ethnic council in the settlement: Gipsy, Greek, Croatian, Polish, German, Rumanian, Serb and Ukrainian Neighbouring settlements are: Budapest XIII., Budapest XV. - Rákospalota, Dunakeszi town and Budapest III - Óbuda-Békásmegyer.
The territory of the district is inhabited from Ages and many villages were there in the Middle Ages, Újpest is a young settlement. The first house by the side of the Pest's Border Pub was built in 1832. From 1840 the settlements was a village and between 1907-1929 it was a town. Between 1929-1950 it was a city. In 1950 the city was united into Budapest Capital and became the IV. district. In 1983 they started to build a new residental district: Káposztásmegyer.
In 1910 Újpest was a town in Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun County. Number of inhabitants in 1910: 55.197; 49.307 (89,3%) Hungarian, 3.116 (5,6%) German, 1.322 (2,4%) Slovakian, 941 (1,7%) Czech and 511 (0,9%) others by mother tongue, 36.362 (65,9%) Roman Catholic, 10.140 (18,4%) Jew, 5.342 (9,7%) Calvinist and 3.352 (6,1%) other by religion.
The flag, the CoA and the seal were adopted in 8th April 1993.

I though it odd, but it is so. I think I saw the same flag with transparent coat of arms in use somewhere in the city too.
