Overview

Előszállás is a large village in Dunaújváros district of Fejér County.
Előszállás was first mentioned in written sources in a 1537 record as Elevzallas. The name is probably of Cuman origin; the westernmost settlement of the Cumans was located here. The village was known as Neuhof in German.
Előszállás and the surrounding areas were occupied before the Romans. Celtic, Avar, and Roman artifacts have been found here. The Turks ravaged the area in 1526. A good part of the inhabitants returned, but the specifically nomadic, herding-hunting-fishing form of animal husbandry was permanently eradicated by Turkish rule. The Cuman captaincy was dissolved and Előszállás was annexed to Tolna County.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the provost of Fehérvár had an estate here. Later it became the property of the Sulyok family (Balázs, István, and György Sulyok). After this it was a property of Várpalota Castle. In 1594, Előszállás was completely depopulated, and at the beginning of the 17th century, the abandoned settlement was populated by Rac people.
Előszállás was established as an independent village in 1928, by merging the settlement and the surrounding small settlements. Additional outlying areas were annexed to the outpost in 1954 and 1969. These, along with Daruhegy, became an independent settlement under the name Daruszentmiklós in 2002.
