Overview

Döbrönte (in German Dewrenten) is a German-Hungarian village in Veszprém County in Hungary near to Town of Pápa (15 km south) in the Bakony Mountains. The village has got 271 inhabitants (1990 census), Germans and Hungarians. One of the Official Ethnic Minorities of Hungary has got ethnic council in the village. Germans. Neighbouring settlements are: Pápa town, Pápakovácsi, Ganna, Magyarpolány and Bakonyjákó villages. The first mention of the settlement is from 1330, all settlers of the village were serf . In 1367 Benedek Himfy, the landlord of the village, general of King Louis I. (the Great) built the Castle Szarvaskő (Deer Rock). At the time of the Turkish wars the settlement was devastated in the 16th century. The settlement was resettled with German settlers in the 18th century. In 1910 Döbrönte was a village in the Pápa district of Veszprém County. Number of inhabitants in 1910: 502; 379 (75,5%) German, 118 (23,5%) Hungarian and 5 (1,0%) other by mother tongue, 472 (94,0%) Roman Catholic, 18 (3,6%) Calvinist and 12 (2,4%) other by religion.
Symbols of the Coat of Arms: The gold deer and the gold bastion relate to the Castle of Szarvaskő (Deer Rock).
Date of adoption: 31 October 1995 by the No.6/1995 Resolution of the Community of Döbrönte Village.
