Today was an international children festival here in Markt Schwaben. There was a flag of the organization "Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal". Keren Hayesod seems to help Jewish emigrants to Israel to settle down.

Notice that the logo was printed on the backside of the flag! To see it correctly you have to take the hoist on the right. Is this just a mistake or is it, because Hebrew is written from right to left ?
J. Patrick Fischer, 17 September 2005

Keren Hayesod (The Foundation Fund) was established during the Zionist Congress in London on July 26, 1920. Today, it is one of the three bodies that constitute the Jewish agency (together with the World Jewish Congress and USA's Jewish communities Union). Keren Hayesod is also known as the United Israel Appeal. Its head office is in Jerusalem.
The Keren Hayesod objective is to be the major organization for collecting donations for Israel and is operating around the world apart of the USA. Those donations are used mainly for welfare activities including (but not solely helping new immigrants). All its activities are according to the Keren HaYesod Act of 1956.
In the photo, it is on the obverse side as usually in Israel. "Israeli hoist" is on the right side of the flag.
Dov Gutterman, 17 September 2005

The Jewish Agency (also known as the World Zionist Organization) distributes money collected by the KH/UIA. These organizations are connected to the Israeli government.
The portion of this money that comes from the United States is collected by the United Jewish Communities, which itself is a merger of three US (non-Israeli) organizations, one of which – the one actually responsible for sending money to the KH/UIA/JA/WZO – was also known as the UIA. (The other two were the Council of Jewish Federations, which operate at the local level, and the UJA, which collected money from the various local federations and distributed it not only to Israel but elsewhere overseas, through the Joint Distribution Committee. To make things more confusing, the local New York federation was and still is called UJA-Federation.)
The World Jewish Congress is a private organization, completely separate, which deals with Jewish culture around the world.
If I recall correctly, the JA building in Jerusalem says "Jewish Agency/World Zionist Organization" over the front door, "Keren HaYesod/United Israel Appeal" over one wing, and "Keren Kayemet LiYisrael/Jewish National Fund" over the other wing.
Nathan Lamm, 18 September 2005

"Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal (Hebrew: קרן היסוד‎, literally "The Foundation Fund") is an official fundraising organization for Israel with branches in more than 40 countries. Its work is carried out in accordance with the "חוק קרן היסוד,תשט"ז 1956" (English: Keren haYesod Law-5767/1956) (http://fs.knesset.gov.il/3/law/3_lsr_209372.PDF), passed by the Knesset on January 10, 1956, granting the organization a unique fundraising status. It is a registered corporation of the State of Israel.

It is considered as one of the three “National Institutions” (the other two being the World Zionist Organization and the The Jewish Agency for Israel referred to as such because they were the main driving forces for the establishment in 1948 of the modern-day "State of Israel", since all three of them predate this entity.

It was established at the World Zionist Congress in London on July 7–24, 1920 and the respective "Keren Hayesod Manifesto – 1920" (https://www.kh-uia.org.il/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Keren-Hayesod-Manifesto.pdf) published in London, December 24th, 1920 by The Jewish Chronicle (other sources mention the Twelfth Zionist Congress held in 1921 in Carlsbad and following registration of the organization in London that same year on March 23), to provide the Zionist movement with resources needed for the Jews to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. It came in response to the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which stated that "his Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people" – turning the ages-old dream of the return to Zion into a politically feasible goal. In 1926, Keren Hayesod relocated its headquarters from London to Jerusalem. With the establishment of the Jewish Agency in 1929, KH became its fundraising arm while continuing its own wide-ranging activities.
