The city emblem and the flag were adopted on Oct 3rd 2005 by Notice No 44. The white flag has a green and an orange two color city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana き Ki of Kitaakita in a form of the nature in harmony with the people. The green color stands for Akita cedar and an abundant nature, the curved line for a warmth and an affluence, the flying form for an exponential development to the future.
The flag proportion is 2:3. The height of the emblem is 136/200 of the height of the flag.
