[Shizuoka University]
Ceremonial flag; image by Shunsuke Omachi, 13 January 2023

Located in Shizuoka City Shizuoka Prefecture and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial flag has purplish blue background with a gold ,silver and blue emblem in the center and gold fringe. The university flag is purplish blue with a white emblem in the center. The school color, purplish blue, is reminiscent of early morning of Mt. Fuji and evokes the feeling of fresh breath. It is also the color of the undulating waves of the Sea of Enshu and Suruga Bay, symbolizing "great potential. Adopted in May 2000. The university emblem was adopted from a design submitted by an on-campus application shortly after the opening of the university (around June 1949), and was later partially revised and customarily used as the Shizuoka University badge. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the university's founding in 1999, the original design was redesigned and officially established as the university emblem in May 2000. This emblem follows the previous design and concept, but is expressed in a clear image appropriate for the new era. The design of the university emblem is based on the composition of Omote Fuji with Mt. Hoei in the background and the waves of the Sea of Enshu and Suruga Bay in the foreground, representing the university's location in this magnificent landscape. Mt. Fuji is the representative mountain not only of Shizuoka Prefecture but also of Japan, signifying sublime nobility and severity. The dynamic waves of the Sea of Enshu and Suruga Bay represent the sea, the source of life, and signify continuous generation and development. The whole (circular shape) signifies the desire for a complete human and academic development in a rich natural environment.
