Presentation of Kičevo

The municipality of Kičevo (in Albanian, Kërçovë / Kërçova; 56,734 inhabitants; 838 sq. km) is located in western North Macedonia, halfway between Skopje and Ohrid. It is made until 2013 of the town of Kičevo and the settlements of Knežino, Lazarovci, Mamudovci, Osoj, Paštani, and Trapčni Dol. The former municipalities of Drugovo, Oslomej, Vraneštica, and Zajas were incorporated to Kičevo on 24 March 2013.

Kičevo is built on the site of the antique town of Uskana; it is listed in Byzantine Emperor Basil II's documents (11th century) as Kicavis. In the 13th-14th century, the town was known as Katin Grad, literally Katina's Town, since Katina, the sister of ruler Marko, lived in the town. Kičevo was the first town of North Macedonia to be liberated at the end of the Second World War, on 11 September 1945.
The monastery of Sveta Bogorodica Prečista (Blessed Virgin) is located in the mountains surrounding Kičevo. On 17 April 1924, Dositej took the coat in the monastery; in 1963, he became the first Archbishop of the renewed Ohrid Archbishopric of the Macedonian Orthodox Church. Dositej later proclaimed the autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church. The monastery is known for a flying icon representing the Blessed Virgin sent three times to the Knezino monastery and coming back each time to its original place. The third return of the icon was watched because it was supposed that someone secretely brought back the icon, but the watchers saw a ray a light entering the monastery through a window in the middle of the night.

Flag of Kičevo

The flag of Kičevo (Macedonian Ministry of Local Self-Government website, page no longer online), is vertical, in proportions 2:1, vertically divided red-white (~2:1) with the municipal emblem in the upper part.
The emblem is vertically divided red-white and the border between the two fields in the emblem matches the border between the two fields in the flag. The emblem seems to show a bridge over a narrow and deep valley. Republika Makedonija / Kičevo is written in Cyrillic letters in the chief of the shield.

Former municipality of Oslomej

The former municipality of Oslomej (Осломеј; Albanian, Osllomeji; 10,420 inhabitants; 121.09 sq. km) is made of the village of Oslomej and of the settlements of Arangel (Haranjelli), Berikovo (Berikova), Garan (Garana)i, Živrino (Zhubrina), Jagol (Jagolli), Jagol Dolenci (Dollenca), Novo Selo (Novosella), Papradište (Papradishti), Popovjani (Popojani), Premka, Srbica (Kastrioti), Sterlš (Strellca), Tuin (Tuhini), Crvivci (Cërvica), and Šutovo (Shutova).

The flag of Oslomej, as communicated by the municipal administration to Nikolče Stojanoski, is horizontally divided red-black-red with the municipal emblem in the middle.
The emblem is made of a shield with two red scrolls above and below it, each charged with eight white stars. The stars must represent the 16 settlements forming the municipality. The shield is red with the helmet of Skanderbeg, a white open book and a black power plant. The helmet of Skanderbeg, as well as the red and black colours, undoubtedly indicate that the majority of the inhabitants of the municipality are ethnic Albanians.

The power plant must represent the MPC "Oslomej" power plant. Quoting the ELEM website:

The majority of the production of electricity in the Republic of North Macedonia, about 80%, is based on the thermal power plants. The smallest thermal capacity, within the power system, is the Mining Power Complex Oslomej near Kičevo, with an installed unit of 125 MW and net production of about 700 GWh/year.
MPC Oslomej started the production in 1980, and until now it has achieved excellent production results. With installed capacity of 125 MW this power plant supplies about 10% of the total production of electricity in North Macedonia. This power plant uses coal as a basic fuel with an average calorie amount of 7600 kJ/kg, and the coal consumption is 1,5 kg/Wh, while the crude oil consumption is 2,16 gr/Wh. The annual overburden land is over 3 million cubic meters and the mining over 600.000 tons coal per year.
