The President's flag, red with a green rectangle charged with a white crescent and star, was introduced officially on 26 July 1968.
The flag shown in Album des Pavillons [pay00] is slightly different from the official specifications, with a narrower red border. It might be either erroneous or based on a version of the flag predating the adoption of the official specifications.

Recently, the entire government of the Maldives got into wet suits and held a meeting under water to raise awareness for Global Warming. A picture published by ARD Tagesschau shows the President of the Maldives, signing a declaration regarding Global Warming, using a waterproof pen. Behind the President, you can see the Presidential Flag flying - or should I say floating - at the ocean floor.

Prime Minister's flag

Maldives Prime Minister's flag image by Željko Heimer, 30 September 2002

According to Smith (1982) [smi82], the Prime Minister uses a flag in approximative proportions 3:5, quarterly divided green-blue-red-green, with a white star in the first quarter. This flag is mentioned by Znamierowki (1999) [zna99], described by Crampton (1990) [cra90f], but not shown in Album des Pavillons (2000, op. cit.).
Željko Heimer, 30 September 2002

The Prime Minister was the head of government during the Sultanate and the first and second republics between 1835 and 1975. The last Prime Minister was Ahmed Zaki, between August 1972 and March 1975. On 6 March 1975, Zaki was removed from office and the position was abolished.

The Ministerial Flags were first flown in the early 1950s and their use were quite limited. The Prime Minister’s flag was not used by Ibrahim Nasir when he was prime minister (1958-68). The prime ministerial office was abolished in the 1968 (republican) constitution and then reinstated in 1972.

People's Majlis

The People's Majlis is the unicameral legislative body of Maldives. It has the authority to enact, amend and revise laws, as outlined in the Constitution of the Maldives. The constitution adopted on 22 December 1932 was the basis for the formation of the first ever Majlis of the Maldives.

Majlis is the Arabic word for a sitting room. It can also refer to a legislature, and is used in the names of legislative councils and assemblies in some states of the Islamic world.

People's Majlis has its own flag, green over blue charged with an upward-pointed crescent and three stars are placed above it.
