Background
Lilongwe is the capital city of Malawi. Originally a
fishing village, it was founded in 1906 and was officially recognised as a town
in 1947. Due to its location in the centre of the country, it replaced
Blantyre as the capital of the country in 1975.

The municipal flag of Lilongwe
has a white background, in the centre of which are the municipal coat of arms.
There is also a variant in which the inscription "Lilongwe City Council" appears
under the arms.
