The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano, being adopted by the council on 2 May 1990. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
Imposed over Spanish field, the same of which is split and cut forming four sections, whose blazons are: In the first section goes a ponderosa pine represents its forestal wealth, behind this tree one can make out a Christian cross, making reference to the Christian religion, the second section carries a jug, antique tool which was employed in mining [for extraction of metals], the third section carries a guare [traditional pot] and blanket representing the Tarahumara artisanry; the fourth section composes three mountains making reference to the roughness of the topography of this Municipality. The shield is crested by a crown, making reference to the fact these lands pertained to the Kingdom of Spain, as a complement of this shield carries a ribbon with the name of the founding Mine: Santa Bárbara de Maguarichi; in the bordure or margin carries the year 1749 which makes reference to the discovery of the mine, also over the margin appears two towers of malacate [hand-operated winches] and two lamps of carbide to emphasize the mining vocation of this municipality.
At the top of the bordure reads "MAGUARICHIC CHIHUAHUA"; to the left the code 08 for the state and to the right 041 for the municipality, used as statistical codes by INEGI.
