The coat of arms of Nonoava was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano and approved by the council on 26 February 1990. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
Shield resolved in Spanish field, the same of which is cut forming two sections whose blazons are: The Nonoava River is placed for the spilling of benefits which this river leaves in its passing by this municipality, the Temple of Our Lady of Montserrat, in representation of the Catholic religion, a cloud makes allusion to the hope it will rain, the precarious agriculture has stayed represented by a corn plant. The lower section is separated from the first section by the Nonoava River, composing hte head of an Arab horse, and 3 heads of bovine cattle, a Spanish longhorn, a Criollo and a Hereford, signifying with this the effort which the inhabitants of this Municipality have made by improving cattle-raising; the year of 1749 makes allusion to the foundation of the Population with the original name of Nuestra Señora de Montserrat de Nonoava by the Jesuit Francisco Arteaga, two branches of alligator juniper in the bordure make reference to the flora, two Jesuit symbols (sun) make allusion to the evangelizers.
At the top of the bordure "NONOAVA CHIHUAHUA" is read. To its left is the code 08 for the state and to the right 049 for the municipality; these are codes used by INEGI for statistical purposes. The shield is placed over parchment, alluding to products made using cattle.
