The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano, being approved on 29 June 1989. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

The original name of this Municipality was Sta Isabel de Tarahumares [which serves as a ribbon above the shield], it is a shield over Spanish field of one single section, in it appears the following blazons: A family of Tarahumaras being evangelized by a Franciscan, the Temple of the Population [Saint Isabel of Hungary church; three clouds can also be seen above] in representation of Catholicism, the highway of four lanes (it was the first in the State) [found over a triangle depicting this over a different green ground with the sky and mountains in the background], a shade with benches represents the family tourism by the hour, modality of tourism which was born in the Las Sombrillas Bathhouse, four cottonwood trees make reference to the flora of the place, the Aztec symbol which represents water makes allusion to the spring which fuels the potable water of the population [and its stream frames the shield], in the four corners of the bordure go flowers of pomegranate, flower which the Franciscans brought from Europe, only in Gral. Trías and the Valle de Allende they are found. Its motto is "Trabajo, Esfuerzo y Constancia" [Work, Effort, and Constance].

At the top of the bordure, it reads "GRAL. ANGEL TRIAS A. CHIHUAHUA, the name of the municipality between 1932 and 1993; this was the name of a state governor who served eight terms in the 19th century. It was renamed Santa Isabel, however the old name continues to be on the coat of arms. To the left is the code 08 for the state; to the right is the code 024 for the municipality, codes used by INEGI for statistical purposes. At the bottom of the bordure is the year 1668, when the Franciscans founded this place.
