The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano, being approved on 29 June 1989. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

This shield is integrated by 4 sections, over Spanish field, it is parted and cut by 4 rivers which cross its territory: Conchos, San Pedro, Satevó, and Santa Isabel, the rest of the blazons are: the effigy of a Spaniard forward to that of a Tarahumara woman which signifies the fusion of two cultures, arquebus and sword, these refer to the Spaniards, bows and arrows to the indigenes, the Temple of San Francisco Javier makes reference to the Catholic religion, the wild boar steeped on a tree, reminds us of the passing by this municipality by the forward Juan de Oñate, a cloud makes reference to the hope of rain, a bean and head of cow make allusion respectively to agriculture and livestock-raising. The year of 1640 refers to the foundation of the mission of San Francisco de Javier de Satevó, which was the original name of the municipality, the shield is framed in a parchment of cow and represents the value added which should be given to leather from livestock, it also includes the Jesuit symbol remembering the evangelizers of the region.

At the top of the shield's bordure is "SATEVO CHIHUAHUA", with the code 08 to the left for the state and 061 to the right for the municipality; these are used by INEGI for statistical purposes. Razor grassis on the outskirts of the interior, since it is the primary aliment of livestock. The parchment reads "SAN FCO. DE SATEVO; TRABAJO VALENTIA AMISTAD" [Work, bravery, friendship].

Note: The municipality primarily uses a version without the parchment, in black and white.
