The coat of arms of Huatabampo was adopted in 1974 officially. Apparently, in 1940, a contest was held in the secondary schools regarding a coat of arms for Huatabampo, where the student Carlos Encinas Hernández emerged as the winner from Secondary School No. 17. It is unclear if this was adopted by the council immediately after unofficially or if it was not used at all by the municipality until 1974. Description of the coat of arms according to the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations:

The legend "Huatabampo tierra de generales" [land of generals] at the upper left border [now read below the shield if at all]; highlighted is an eagle with three stars above its head, which represents the famous generals which participated in the beloved fight of the revolution, motivating the pseudonym to Huatabampo as a land of generals; at the upper right border representing the agricultural activity, in its eminence of fertile land, where many different grains are cultivated: wheat, corn, soy, safflower, etc.; in the lower left angle the activity of fishing is manifested for having an extensive coastline, having an important port, the lower right angle highlights cattle-raising with the young beef cattle, goats, and pig, in the first it is divided in its modalities as milkman in the Valley, within the district of rural development and meat in lands of cattle-grazing to the south of the municipality, region contemplated under the (PLHINO) [Hydraulic Plan of the Northwest].
