De Wijk [former municipality]
Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
The former municipality of De Wijk in Drenthe, the Netherlands, has
been absorbed into the municipality of De Wolden. Sierksma (Nederlands
vlaggenboek, 1962) has a horizontal RY flag, which was not official, but
used by the local commercial association. Those colors were derived from
the municipal Coat of Arms. Sierksma (De gemeentewapens van Nederland, 1968) states
about the Coat of Arms: 'The 19 coins ('penningen') are derived from the family
Coat of Arms of van der Clooster. The head is derived from the shield of the family
De Vos van Steenwijk.' De Wijk consisted of the villages: De Wijk (seat),
Eemten, Haalweide, Koekange, Koekangerveld, Noordwijk, Oosterwijk, Oshaar,
Rogat, Schiphorst, De Stapel, Struikberg and Wijkerbroek.

Ruinerwold [former municipality]
Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
Ruinerwold is since 1 Jan 1998 part of the municipality of De Wolden
(Drenthe, the Netherlands).
The flag, adopted 18 Mar 1976, is derived from the municipal Coat of
Arms. The lozenge and the 12 coins refer to the judicial college 'Heer
en Twaalven' (Lord and Twelves), president and assessors from the 15th
to the 17th centuries. The rozets are derived from the Lords of Ruinen.

Zuidwolde [former municipality]
Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
Zuidwolde is since 1 Jan 1998 part of the municipality of De Wolden
(Drenthe, the Netherlands)
The flag, adopted April 1981, symbolizes the old name of this municipality:
'Kerkenbosch' (Churchforest) - the scandinavian cross for the church and
the oakleaf for the wood. The eagle is derived from the arms of the family
van Echten, responsible for the peat-exploition in this region.

Jarig Bakker, 4 August 1999.
In the flag of Zuidwolde (mun. De Wolden) prov. Drenthe, the eagle should
be black instead of white. The Echten-eagle is black (sable). Sierksma
based his info in 1968 on the coats of arms. About 15 years later I designed
this flag.
