Sneek/Snits is one of the eleven Frisian towns; it has remained a separate
municipality and it is the main center of the Frisian lakes.
The flag was adopted 13 September 1956 and is derived from the municipal
Coat of Arms.

Vereniging van Sneeker Zakenlieden
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 20 Oct 2011
The Vereniging van Sneeker Zakenlieden (Association of Sneek
Businessmen) have had several flags over time, each in the city colours
of yellow and black and charged in some way with the Sneeker Waterpoort
(Water gate), which, as one of the last remnants of the city's defences,
is Sneek's signature landmark. Most often, these flags have also spelt
out their name in full. The current one, however, is derived more
closely from the city flag of Sneek with just the
Sneeker Waterpoort counter-changed.
The city centre containing quite a few shops leads to this flag flying
there in such abundance that some tourists, and even some new citizens,
believe it to be the flag of Sneek itself. This is a bit unfortunate, as
the gate in the centre is too vulnerable to folding, so in flags hanging
from flagstaffs it will often get reduced to a bundle of yellow and
black lines. The design therefore doesn't work as well as the real,
uncharged flag of Sneek. Still, the design is quite good, and is
probably the best design the association has used so far.
