First the Governors of Aceh, Celebes and some other areas in the Dutch Indies, and of Curaçao (as the Netherlands Antilles were known before 1948) and Suriname used the national tricolour, with in the red stripe two white balls.

Later one ball was added (then placed 1:2). This flag was also used by the Governor of Netherlands New Guinea.

Governor of Suriname (1966-1975)

The Governor's flag [of Suriname] was white with red, white and blue tribands at the top and at the bottom. These bands symbolized the colonial ruler of Suriname -- the Netherlands. Centered on the middle white field was a miniature version of the flag. When produced, only the stars and ring appeared. There was no outline of a miniature flag on the center white field.

This flag was adopted by Order in Council of 14 March 1966, together with a similar flag for the Governor of Suriname.

By Order in Council of 11 October 1986 (effective 1 January 1987) the flag for the Governor of the Netherlands Antilles was changed; in the miniature flag of the Netherlands Antilles one star was dropped.

Governor of Aruba

On 1 January 1986 Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles. A flag for the Governor of Aruba was adopted by Order in Council of 29 October 1985. It had the same pattern, except the miniature flag of Aruba is depicted in the form of a disk, with the star centered.
