Flag: five stripes black - yellow - blue - yellow - black, proportioned
3:5:4:5:3, of which the second and fifth stripe are widened swallowtailed
embattled.
Adopted 8 May 1980; design: Stichting Banistiek & Heraldiek.
The colors yelloow and blue are derived from the municipal arms. with
of black, a functional addition.
The pattern is a symbolic representation of the geography and history
of the municipality. In center is the blue stripe, the Bisschop Davidsgrift
(canal), surrounded by two yellow stripes (the former double unity of Stichts
(= Utrecht) and Gelders Veenendaal), symbolizing welfare. All enclosed
by the black profiles of the former fields of peat-diggers, which used
to be the main means of income of the population, before cigars made their
entrance.

This flag was not official, but was used as such. The colors are derived
from the municipal arms.
