Jondal municipality is situated in Hordaland county.

The flag flown by the municipality of Jondal, three yellow boathooks extending diagonally upwards from the lower fly on a field of red, symbolises the importance of the boat to the community. It is not only a means of communication, but also important for the industries of the municipality. Jondal has traditions in boat building, and the skills of making wooden boats are kept in high regard. The flag of Jondal was designed by Arvid Sveen and officially approved by Royal resolution 27 November 1987.

Approved by the royal resolution of 27 November 1987 after a drawing by Arvid Sveen. [c2j88]
The municipal web site https://www.jondal.kommune.no/artikkel.aspx?AId=43&Back=1 explains simply that the hooks should appear as dragging forward and reminding how important were boats for work and transportation in the municipality.
The same web site claims that the municipal flag is white with the municipal arms in it - that is certainly contradicting the royal resolution and the municipal decision of 9 September 1987 mentioned in it, but it indicates the current use.
