Description
It seems that Jiwaka's flag is seen at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTFtWT3dea4 at 0.20 seconds! It is used at
the 5th PNG Games. It is diagonally divided dark green over yellow by a white
stripe, and has emblems on both coloured fields.
Paraskevas Renesis,
30 November 2012
- The Bird of Paradise is adapted from the PNG Flag meaning that Jiwaka is still part of PNG.
- The headdress or gerupeng in Jiwaka's local dialect is a headdress uniquely and commonly worn by Jiwakans only during traditional singsings. Thus it is Jiwaka's true
identity and therefore it is Jiwaka Province's emblem.
- The kundu and spear are commonly used in festivals and singsings throughout Jiwaka as well. (The
kundu & spear are true identities of the Highlands people of which
the Jiwaka people are part).
- The different colors of red, black, yellow, orange, brown, white etc... are those commonly used for body painting/decorations in every occasions.
- The four stars represent peoples of Jimi, North of Waghi, South of Waghi and Kambia.
- The background green triangle represents her resources like coffee, tea,
timbers and the virgin green forests.
- The background gold triangle represents her fertile land.
- The white stripe in the middle represents her big mighty rivers.
- The bird's eye means Jiwaka Province was born with the vision of our forefathers.
- The Jiwaka Flag is designed so that the spear and kundu face the direction the Bird is flying meaning Jiwaka is moving with
the change.
Joe Tombil, 4 August 2015
- The Jiwaka flag was designed by Junior Kupe Tombil in 2011, by then he was 13 years old and a
student doing Grade Seven (7) at Muruka Primary School in the Minj District of the new Jiwaka Province, Papua New Guinea.
- Junior Kupe Tombil is from Sipngap/Kopung Village, Minj in Jiwaka Province from the Usikup Clan of the Muruka Tribe of big Ngeneka Tribe in the Minj Area of Jiwaka Province.
- The designer of the Jiwaka Flag, Junior Kupe Tombil's design was selected and won the Flag Design Competition out of 180 entrants in 2011.
- His flag was officially adopted on the 17th of May 2012, during the inaugural Jiwaka Province Establishment Day, where the new Jiwaka flag was raised for the first time and Western Highlands Province's Flag was lowered for the last time.

A variant of the flag was received as a gift from a local office in Boroko /Port
Moresby (probably with the help of the Belgian Honorary Consul) sent in November
2014 and manufactured in China.
