Leszno Coat of Arms
image from this website.
adopted 29 Aug 1995
The emblem of Leszno commune originally comes from the emblem of the
nobility of the Leszczyński family from the Mazovia. In the Middle Ages
Leszno was owned by the Leszczyński family. Here was also the place of
its residence. The name "Leszno" as such comes directly from the last name
of the family which was written either Leszczyńscy or Lesniewscy. Due to
this fact in XVI and XVII century the village was called both Leszno as
well as Leśno.
At the navy blue shield is a silver horseshoe with its ends turned down.
At the top is a cross, the second one is placed in the center of the horseshoe.
For the needs of the emblem of Leszno commune to the original "Boża
Wola" emblem there was added two golden wheatears at the bottom. These
wheatears are the symbol of the assiduity of the farmers from Leszno.
Marek Wasilewski prepared the visualisation of the emblem.
The emblem was approved by the Council of the Leszno Community on 29
August 1995 and afterwards it was dedicated by the Primate Priest Józef
Glemp during a mass for the harvest festival in September 1995.
