Siedlce - rural commune, Siedlce County, Mazowieckie Voivodship - former
name: gmina Stara Wieś.
Gmina Siedlce is a rural gmina (commune) in Siedlce County, Masovian
Voivodship, in east-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Siedlce, although
the town is not part of the territory of the commune.
Area: 141.54 sq.km (54.6 sq.mi); Population: 15,893 (2006).
Encompassing the city of Siedlce, the commune has an agricultural character
although the services and industry are becoming ever more important sectors
of its economy.
Land under cultivation - 78%; Forests - 10%.
Arms and flag adopted on May 17, 2008 (resolution # XIX/133/2008).
"Arms: a green shield divided horizontally by a white, wavy line symbolizing
the local rivers. In the upper part of the shield is the noble Coat of Arms "Rawicz"
( a joyful maiden riding a big black merry bear).
On the lower part of the shield are two crossed cavalry sabers (sabres),
silver with golden handles.
This is to commemorate the Battle of Iganie fought with the Russian
Cossacks during the November Uprising of 1830 on the territory of the commune.
Flag: a rectangle of green color in the ratio of 5:8 with the Arms in
the middle, separated by a white, wavy band."
