Overview

This city of 21,158 inhabitants was founded in 1825. The flag is the symbol of the spiritual, physical and historical features which define us as a town. The green stripes represent the neighbouring territories of Aibonito and Barranquitas, while the central blue stripe symbolizes Orocovis, the three towns having formed the regional domain of the Cacique Orocovix prior to the colonial period. The white stripes stand for the territories granted by the municipalities. The shape refers to the initial letter of Orocovis and Orocovix. The 17-pointed star represents the sun and the geographical extension of Orocovis with its 17 subdivisions. The sun is the star and central objet of our solar system, just as Orocovis is the geographical centre and the fountain of light, energy, life, human and spiritual resources for all of Puerto Rico. The colours of our flag represent the very essence of our collective being, as a town gifted with great human and spiritual values. The green represents the physical colour of nature in our fields, and symbolizes hope and abundance coming from our soil. The white represents purity, joy, friendship and simplicity, and the spirit of hospitality of our people. The blue is the symbol of our sincerity and nobility of mind. It also the symbol of the sun and fidelity, and it is also a synonym for energy, life, will and fighting spirit flowing inside us and driving us towards the fulfillment of our goals and aspirations in life.

In the newspaper Primera Hora, 14 November 2005,  Leysa Caro González reported the celebration of the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Orocovis.
There is at the end of this article information about the flag (translated by me): "The marshals of the parade were Carlos Adrián Colón, Gloria Onelia Pérez, Juan R. Alvarado, Rubén Rivas, Cérvulo Rivera and José A. Santiago, designers of the coat of arms and flag of Orocovis. The group was presided by Celestino Avilés, the author of the [municipal] anthem."

The oval is symbol of the letter "o", initial of the name of the town. In each quadrant appear representative elements of the town. In the left superior quadrant an Indian bust, symbol of the great "Chief Orocovix", in silhouetted in gold on a silver-plated background. The Indian bust faces towards the star or sun that appears in the superior right quadrant, which is in gold on a blue background and represents the territorial municipality with its seventeen rays or demarcations. In the inferior quadrant a plantain plant is observed, silhouetted in gold on a silver-plated background. A bridge also silhouetted in gold on a blue background, above the river appears in the left inferior quadrant. The Indian represents the Taíno roots and the noble courage of its people. The sun is symbol of the municipality as the geographic center of the island of Puerto Rico. The plantain plant represents the main source of subsistence, the fecundity of the soil, the love for the land and the nature and work. The bridge is symbol of the hospitality, communication and friendship with the neighboring towns. It is also a main physical characteristic that distinguishes the municipality. The three tower gold crown above the shield, is symbol of the category that corresponds to the town. The colors of the shield also have their meaning. The green represents the physical color of nature in the fields, it is symbol of the hope of progress and abundance that emanates of its soil. The blue symbolizes spiritual sincerity and nobility. The silver-plated and the gold are indicative of precious metals. They are symbols of the security and spiritual wealth that characterize the people. "Orocovis", a town equipped with great human and spiritual values! The Mural Crown has 3 towers and represent that is a Town.
