Meaning:
As often happens, these symbols are partly taken from each of the two ancestor communes´ coats of arms. The animal, taken from the former Parada communal arms, is described as a sheep, more precisely a ewe (ovelha), although what is depicted, given the neck posture and relative limb length, is rather a lamb (cordeiro or anho). Indeed the heraldic clipart used (for these two and for several other Portuguese local coats of arms depicting what is blazoned as ovelha) is identical to that of the specific charge named the Paschal Lamb (Cordeiro Pascal) without its labarum and nimbus.
