Coat of arms

Shield Purpure, a bridge Argent masoned Sable and issuant from a threefold barrulet wavy Argent over Azure over Argent, between a bulldog couchant Argent in base and a mystical rose of six petals Or, barbed Vert and seeded Gules in chief, over a crescent recumbent Argent and between two crowns Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank)and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "TRIANA - ALENQUER"
Meaning:
According to tradition "triana" means "bridge". The bridge is thus canting. It is representing the local bridge across Triana River. The rose is a symbol of Our Lady of Conception, the local patron saint. The crowns are alluding to the Portuguese queens, who traditionally were rulers of the town of Alenquer, and of Óbidos and Caldas da Rainha as well. The barrulets wavy are respresenting Triana River, which is crossing Alenquer. The bulldog is a canting element from the arms of the municipality. Its name is derived from "Alão-quer". The purple colour in heraldry in general is representing spirituality, wisdom, dignity, here it is alluding to the history of Alenquer, the cradle of Damião de Goes, a politician and historian born in Triana on 2 February 1502.
