It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Coat of arms

Shield Argent, in base a mountain issuant Vert; charged with an oven Argent masoned Sable with mouth Gules,flanked by two larks statant affronty Argent eyed Gules, the mountain crowned by a pomegranate tree Vert with six pomegranates of the same slipped Gules, in chief a demi sun radiant Gules issuant from chief. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "ENCOSTA DO SOL"
Meaning:
The pomegranate tree is representing Amadora municipality, now just fruited six times due to the reduced number of six communes. The oven is representing former Alfornelos commune. The larks are representing former Brandoa commune. The "hanging" sun is a new element and alluding to the commune's name and thus canting.

Presentation of Encosta do Sol

Encosta do Sol Commune was established by law A n.º 11-A/2013 on 28 January 2013, the territories of the dissolved communes of Brandoa and Alfornelos merged, consisting of the boroughs of Brandoa, Alfornelos and Casal da Mira.

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Coat of arms

Shield Vert, in base a throughout chevron Argent flanked by three ovens Argent masoned Sable with mouth Gules, in chief a pomegranate tree eradicated Argent with 11 pomegranates of the same slipped Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "ALFORNELOS".
Meaning:
The ovens (Port.: fornos) are alluding to the name and thus canting. The pomegranate is symbolizing the municipality and its 11 pre-2013 communes.

Brandoa Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Amadora Municipality (q.v.); it had 17 805 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 2.2 km². The commune was established on 11 September 1979.
