Coat of Arms

Shield Purpure with base wavy of Argent and Azure charged with two fish haurient bendy Or, an embattled tower Argent masoned Sable with port and windows Purpure, in dexter chief a chalice Or capped of the same, in sinister chief a gridiron Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS DE JOLDA MADALENA E RIO CABRÃO".
Meaning:
The chalice is an attribute of St. Mary Magdalen, the local patron saint of Jolda, the gridiron is an attribute of St. Lawrence, the local patron saint of Rio Cabrão. The tower is also representing Jolda, the base is also representing Rio Cabrão.

olda (Madalena) e Rio Cabrão Commune is one of the communes of Arcos de Valdevez Municipality established by a merger in 2013; it had 421 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 4,23 km².

Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess wavy; in chief Vert a palm frond Argent in bend sinister; in base divided into five barrulets wavy, alternating of Argent and Azure, superimposed by two trouts Or eyed Gules in bend. Mural crown with three visible towers and white scroll with inscription in black initials "RIO CABRÂO".
Meaning:
In comparison with the old coat of arms (see below) the river remained, the canting goat (Port.: cabra) disappeared, and the gridiron of St. Lawrence was replaced by the common symbol of martyrs, the palm frond.

Old Coat of Arms (2006 - 2013)

Shield Gules, a bend sinister Azure fimbriated Argent and charged with three fish najant Argent, in dexter chief a gridiron Or, in sinister base a he-goat forcene Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "RIO CABRÃO".
Meaning:
Bend sinister and goat are canting elements, because the name of the commune means "goat river". The gridiron is an attribute of St. Lawrence, the local patron saint.
Sources: Freguesias de Portugal displays the arms, but this webpage displays completely different arms on a white sheet. I followed the version of Carlos Alberto Mouteira Fernandes as given in 1st source (his webpage).
