About the Banner

The banner shows the coat of arms centred in a plain purple field. It has silver and purple cord and tassels and a golden pole with finial. (The purple colour has in fact a more pinkish shade).
The commune has no outdoor flag.

The arms are Argent, in centre a knife Gules with hilt Sable, ordered per fess, in central chief a green cross fleury, in base a bunch of grapes Purpure leaved Vert. Mural crown with three visible towers (village rank) with white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BORBA . S.BARTOLOMEU".
Meaning:
The knife is an attribute of St. Bartholomew having been his instrument of torture (so the red colour probably is representing the martyr's blood). The cross fleury, an Avis Cross, is alluding to the Order of Sao bento of Avis, which had a commandery in Borba, which had been one of the order's dominions. The grape alludes to the famous wines of Borba. The arms were designed by Eduardo Lourenço Brito.

Presentation of São Bartolomeu

According to a commemorative plaque in the commune's administration building it was inaugurated on 25 September 2005. It is a tiny enclave around the church of St. Bartholomew, just in the middle of Matriz commune and one the two urban communes of Borba municipality. It covers 0,14km² and is hence the smallest Portuguese commune, if ordered by surface. It had 758 inhabitants in 2011.
