Coat of arms

The arms are Vert upon base wavy of Argent and Azure in centre a column Or (like standing alongside a pilgimage's way), in central chief a 5-point star Argent. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "RIBEIRA DE FRADES"
Meaning:
The base wavy is probably symbolizing Mondego River (because "ribeira" means "river bank")
Source: I spotted this flag on 27 September 2013 in the town hall of Coimbra.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 26 July 2014

Flag and coat of arms were approved on 14 December 2001, published in Diário da República: III Série.

Coat of arms

[São Martinho do Bispo commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 9 Nov 2008

The coat of arms is vert an ostensory (a device to hold and display the holy bread, used in Catholic -and other Christian- rite) argent nimbed or flanked by a cob of corn at dexter of the latter and a parasol pine cone at sinister of the same in chief a bishop's mitre or stuffed gules and in base a wavy bar argent charged with a wavy barrulet azure. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "S. MARTINHO DO BISPO".
Meaning:
"São Martinho do Bispo" means "Saint Martin of the Bishop", which is (partly) reflected in the arms, as are the inevitable local agricultural produce and local river (Mondego). This coat of arms, with a number of small objects arrayed on a plain shield is an example of the typical "jewelry box" heraldry favoured by most people doing civic heraldry in Portugal these days (those how know better either don't care or ar too polite to protest).
António Martins-Tuválkin, 3 Oct 2006

Coat of arms and flag approved by law and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 28 June 2000.
António Martins-Tuválkin, 3 Oct 2006
