It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field (village rank).

The arms are Or a hunting horn Sable guilded Argent and roped Gules and in chief two St. James cross-swords Gules set in saltire and poining downwards between two lyres Purpure and base wavy Azure and Argent of four barrulets. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank)and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SANTA MARGARIDA DA COUTADA".
Meaning:
The arms are partly canting as "_coutada_" mean "manorial hunting ground"; the St. James' crosses refer almost certainly to the local importance of the respective Order; the waves standing for the Tagus river. Perhaps the lyres are an attribute of St. Margereth, the commune's toponym and former patron?

Santa Margarida da Coutada Commune is one of the three communes of the Constância municipality (q.v.). The commune had 1854 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 58,77 km².
