Meaning:
The hearts are alluding to the local artisanry, working on precious metals. The blue colour is symbolizing loyalty, charity and carefulness, the golden colour is symbolizing nobility, faith, knowledge, fealty, constancy, power and liberty.

Shield divided per chevron reversed into Gules and Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, in central chief a heart Or ornamented Sable. Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "VALBOM - GONDOMAR".
Meaning:
The background colour symbolizing efforts and generosity of the local people. The yellow parts are representing a moat between two mountains transporting water from the Douro River to Valbom, which is derived from "Vale Bom" (the fine valley). The base wavy is alluding to the local fishery on the Douro River and to the river itself. The heart with its black filigrees is representing the local artisanry, working on precious metals.

Valbom Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Gondomar Municipality (q.v.); it had 14 407 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 4.4 km². Valbom was upgraded to a town on 23 August 1986 and to a city on 26 January 2005.
