Coat of Arms

Shield Gules the western façade of a cathedral Argent with two hexagonal towers, on chief a menorah Or, on base three rail profiles of the same ordered 2:1. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and long white scroll, as used by united communes, reading in black upper case serifed letters "FREGUESIA DA GUARDA".
Meaning:
All former communes are represented by the charges as follows: Sé by the cathedral, São Vicente by the menorah and São Miguel by the rail profiles.

Presentation of Guarda

Guarda is one of the eight communes of Guarda Municipality created by a merger during the 2013 changes. It had 26 441 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 37,66 km².

Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a menorah Gules, on base a 5-point star Azure, on chief two ravens statant respectant Sable garnished Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "GUARDA - S. VICENTE".
Meaning:
The ravens are attributes of St. Vincent, name giver and local patron saint. The menorah is a representation of the former Jewish quarter (Portuguese: Bairro da Judiaria). The Jews returned to Guarda in the 13th century and played an important economic role. Their quarter occupied some 14% of the total area of the city during the 15th century. The community was expelled in 1492. The star is a representation of the Serra da Estrela (i.e. the star mountains), a local mountain ridge.

Coat of Arms

Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "GUARDA - SÉ".
Meaning:
The cathedral (Portuguese: ) is name giver of the commune. The coronets are representing the four kings Dom Sancho I, Dom Afonso II, Dom Dinis and Dom Manuel. The star is a representation of the Serra da Estrela (i.e. the star mountains), a local mountain ridge, furthermore it is an attribute of Our Lady of Assumption, the local patron saint.

Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "S. MIGUEL DA GUARDA".
Meaning:
Sword and scales are attributes of St. Michael, name giver of the commune and local patron saint. The cogwheel is symbolising industries. The rail profiles are alluding to the important railway station Guarda-Gare.
