Like all toponyms in the municipality, this commune has two names: Duas Igrejas in Portuguese and Dues Eigreijas in Mirandese (the local syncretic Asturian-Leonese dialect complex, co-official language of Portugal and given a standard orthography); each is the translation of the other and both mean "two churches". The names in brackets are Mirandese, the local language.

Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "DUAS IGREJAS - MIRANDA DO DOURO". Meaning:
The meaning of the name is not featured on the CoA — non-canting arms for a toponym with a clear meaning made of everyday words. Also not featured on the arms any reference to what made this village well known in the whole country throughout the 20th century: It being the eternally temporary terminus of the metre
gauge railway Linha do Sabor, from 1938 to 1988, which would have linked Miranda to the rest of the country by rail. Instead featured on the arms are the sticks used in the local traditional dance, also used in the communal arms of Miranda do Douro, and references to local agriculture (sheaf) and coal mining (black lozenges).
