It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and blue.

Shield Argent, a castle Azure masoned Sable with port and windows Argent over a base wavy of Azure and Argent and between two bunches of sugar cane Vert, in dexter chief a cross Gules of the Order of St. James, in sinister chief a branch of olive Vert fruites Sable and tied crosswise. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals: "CANHA". Drafts designed by Ricardo Jorge Isabel da Silva.
Meaning:
The region belonged to the Order of St. James, represented by its cross. The castle is alluding to a real castle in the past. The canes are reminding on the cultivation of cane and are furthermore a canting element. The olive branch is reminding on the origin of the commune, dedicated to Our Lady of the Olive Tree, furthermore it is stressing the economic importance of that plant. The base is representing a local river (which is not mentioned within the description).
