It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field (village rank).

The arms are Gules a castle Gules a 14 honeycombs Or ordered 2:3:4:3:2 between two electrical bolts Or accosted, issuant from a base barruly wavy Azure and Argent an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VENDA NOVA - MONTALEGRE".
Meaning:
"Venda nova" means "new saleyard" and the arms are not canting - they refer to the local importance of beekeeping and hydro power generation.

Venda Nova Commune is one of the 25 communes of Montalegre Municipality (q.v.); it had 401 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 7,97 km².
